Welcome to the Primary Care Psychiatry Foundation and Purdue University’s Continuing Education on Opioids and Prescription Drug Abuse.  During this course, you can expect to receive updated information on the current state of the problem, how regulatory measures were developed to combat the issue, information about needle exchange programs and how they work, prescription drug monitoring programs and the biology behind chronic pain and addiction.  Information regarding appropriate prescribing of opioids and use of non-pharmacological therapies in pain management will be presented. Diagnosis of substance use disorder in the primary care setting and pharmacology for substance use disorder will be discussed in detail.  Whether learners view all of the modules or only a few, we hope you find this information useful and applicable to clinical practice.
